Casey Collier Named 2018 Miss Basketball Finalist

Junior Lady Spartan point guard Casey Collier has been named a 2018 Miss Basketball finalist for Division II-A.

A member of Webb School of Knoxville’s varsity basketball team since eighth grade, Collier has posted 231 points, to date this season, averaging 5.4 assists, 4 steals and 5 rebounds per game.

The 2017 All-State player is a two-time (2016, 2017) All-Region and All-District Team selection. She helped lead her Lady Spartans to their 13th DII-A East/Middle Region championship last season, picking up both region and district MVP honors along the way. Collier was a member of Webb’s 2015 state championship and 2016 state-runner-up teams and was named to the state All-Tournament team as an eighth grader.

“Casey is a true point guard and leader,” says head Lady Spartan varsity basketball coach, Shelley Collier. “Her presence on the court and her defensive intensity set her apart.”

Casey Collier is one of three Division II-A Miss Basketball finalists. She joins the likes of Ashton Hulme of University School of Jackson, and Ashlyn Pittman of Friendship Christian School.

Coaches and media, statewide, selected finalists based on regular-season performances. Academics and character were also considered in the selection process. The winners will be announced at 7 p.m., March 7, at Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

This weekend, Webb’s Spartan and Lady Spartan teams will host our district tournament. The girls’ and boys’ teams will play back-to-back against King’s Academy in semifinal play, beginning at 4 p.m., February 9, in Webb’s Lee Athletic Center.
