Webb Fails to Advance

Despite Four Losses, Bright Spots
Unfortunately, the wrestling team went 0-4 this past Saturday at our East regional qualifier, losing matches to DII newcomers Grace Christian, Christian Academy of Knoxville, Chattanooga Christian and Notre Dame (Chattanooga).
This means that the "team" component to the season has concluded and we will turn our attention to individual qualifiers on Feb 10 at Baylor in Chattanooga.
We will have a snow make-up match this Thursday evening at Maryville High School versus Maryville and Sevier County, but the matches are non-divisional.
To give you all some perspective on why we could not win as a team on Saturday, we were missing four weight classes which is essentially the same as handing the other team 24 points before any wrestling begins. For whatever reason this season, we could not field the 113, 120, 132 and 182 pound weight classes. Also, we have two 8th graders wrestling up in two other weights which is a lot to ask of young wrestlers at very competitive weight classes.
Not all is gloom and doom, however...Zack Tieng was 4-0 on the day, and Stone Cummins was undefeated as well. Those are strong results going into the individual qualifier for State.
Each wrestler now has the opportunity to qualify for the State Tournament as individuals in two weeks. Wish them luck!
Join me in congratulating these guys on their efforts despite not qualifying for State (team) this year.
