Webb Finishes 6th at Inaugural Tri-State Invitational

Zack brings home the gold for the second week in a row.
On Saturday 1/20, the wrestling team participated in the Tri-State Invitational at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in northern Georgia along with 14 other schools from TN, NC & GA. Turning in one of the best individual performances in many years, we had five wrestlers reach the finals. Below are the results:
106 lbs Matthew Tieng - 5th
* Matthew weighs 91 lbs and is giving up 15+ lbs and is still placing at tournaments.
138 lbs Zack Tieng - 1st
* This is Zack's second tournament championship in as many weeks.
145 lbs Lucas Farr - 2nd
* This is Lucas' first finals appearance. He is wrestling through a nagging back injury, so he is not 100%, yet is soldiering on.
195 lbs Stone Cummins - 2nd
* This marks three weeks and three tournament place finishes for Stone.
* Eli Davies also placed 6th at 195 lbs as a B-team entry.
220 lbs Brik Boruff - 2nd
* Also three weeks and three place finishes.
285 lbs Sam Werner - 2nd
* This was Sam's first finals appearance.
We scored enough to finish sixth as a team, only missing fifth by 1.5 points.
On Friday night at our hotel, the fire alarm went off at midnight, waking us up and scuttling us out of our rooms for a good half hour until the fire department (in full gear!) arrived to check things out. Stone's comment the next day before finals began: "We should have someone pull the fire alarm at every tournament, Señor! That's our good luck charm!!" While we did have luck on our side, I think it was more attributable to these guys' hard work in the wrestling room.
