Spartan Wrestlers Post Podium Finishes at Mountain Top Invitational, Place Fourth Overall

Despite having to weather last-minute changes to their travel schedule to beat the snow and ice forecast for this past Friday, Webb’s Spartan varsity wrestling team came prepared to battle at Saturday’s Mountain Top Invitational hosted by St. Andrew's Sewanee School.

The Spartan team finished fourth overall with seven of its 10 wrestlers earning podium finishes. In addition, Webb received the tournament’s sportsmanship award.

Junior Zack Tieng and freshman Stone Cummins both brought home gold medals for Webb in the 138 and 195-pound weight classes, respectively. Freshman Matthew Tieng (106 pounds), sophomore Lucas Farr (145 pounds) and seniors Charlie Morton (160 pounds) and Sam Werner (285 pounds) all placed third, while freshman Brik Boruff took fourth in the 220-pound division.

Senior Jack Gulley (152 pounds), sophomore Jake Fuller (170 pounds) and eighth grader Billy Robinson (making his varsity wrestling début at the tournament) also put in strong performances.

Congratulations Spartans!
