Webb’s Spartan, Lady Spartan Basketball Teams Win Second Straight District Titles

Both Webb’s Spartan and Lady Spartan varsity basketball teams successfully defended their district championship titles at last week’s Division II-A District Tournament. The boys defeated Grace Christian Academy, 69-49, for their second straight district title, while the girls won, 49-30, over the Grace Christian Academy Lady Rams in the championship game to repeat as district champs.

Spartan junior Luke Burnett was named boys’ Division II-A District Tournament MVP. Classmates Tariq Daughton and Uriah Powers joined Burnett on the District All-Tournament Team. Senior Casey Collier earned girls’ Division II-A District Tournament MVP honors for the third year in a row. Lady Spartan sophomores Catherine Hendershott and Kai Lanier also shared District All-Tournament Team kudos.

Both teams are seeded No. 1 going into this week’s Division II-A Region Tournament. The boys will host No. 4 seed Silverdale at 6 p.m., Monday, February 11. Webb’s Lady Spartans will take on No. 4 seed Grace Baptist Academy at Webb, Tuesday, February 12 at 6 p.m. The first-round winner in the boys’ bracket will take on the winner of the Notre Dame vs. CAK game in Friday semifinal play at Webb, while the winner of tomorrow’s girls’ game will face the winner of the Notre Dame vs. The King’s Academy bracket in Friday’s semifinal at Webb.
