Learning Center Director

Webb School of Knoxville, an independent day school enrolling a diverse student body of 1,010 in grades PreK-12 that is defined by its highly engaging college preparatory curriculum; broad extracurricular programs; supportive faculty who know and care for their students; and a happy, kind, respectful spirit, seeks a full-time Director of its Upper School Learning Center. Webb School’s Upper School Learning Center offers academic and personal management/executive function skills instruction within the context of a college-preparatory curriculum. The Center’s goal is to help students with mild learning differences and ADHD develop the strategies necessary to meet their academic challenges and acquire the needed skills to become independent lifelong learners. Along with academic and study skills instruction, the program seeks to monitor the progress of those students it supports and provide ongoing collaboration with classroom teachers to address a variety of learning styles to maximize student achievement.

The successful candidate will exhibit the following credentials and competencies:
  • MA degree in special education strongly preferred;
  • Knowledge of disabilities and their impact on students’ development and learning (required);
  • Minimum 3-5 years successful experience supporting the needs of students;
  • Experience with academic technology strongly desired;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, bringing the maturity necessary to deal with the demands and responsibilities of the position and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff;
  • Experience providing individualized basic skills and study strategies remediation to students in a one-on-one instructional setting;
  • Ability to develop individualized learning plans (ILPs) and monitor the progress of students with identified learning differences;
  • Ability to conduct informal/formal assessments as needed;
  • Excellent organization and planning skills;
  • Ability to read and synthesize psycho-educational evaluations;
  • Experience providing teachers with materials and guidance to support/accommodate different learning styles;
  • Collaborative approach to sharing teaching strategies with classroom teachers; and
  • An interest and ability to participate in the life of the school outside the role as Director of the Upper School Learning Center
