Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement & Development

Webb School of Knoxville is seeking a full-time, year-round Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement & Development.

Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement & Development works directly with the Director of Development to lead Webb’s alumni relations activities. The Assistant Director is responsible for the leadership of long-term alumni programs, alumni engagement, communication, and fundraising strategies. The ideal candidate will be a leader with proven experience in relationship building, volunteer management, event organization, written communication, and fundraising.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a liaison to the alumni community, strengthening their relationships with Webb through personal cultivation and stewardship.
  • Increase alumni engagement through organization and coordination of alumni events and reunions. Examples include: Class Reunions, Alumni Awards Days, Regional Alumni Events, and Thirsty Thursday School.
  • Support the Director of Development by identifying alumni giving volunteers and class agents.
  • Milestone class reunions take place during Alumni Weekend each fall. The Assistant Director will be tasked with working with class agents to support the 10-plus reunions that take place each fall season.
  • Act as primary staff liaison for Alumni Council and work with alumni leaders to develop programs and events for alumni. Identify and recruit new members of Alumni Council. Take minutes of all Alumni Council meetings.
  • In partnership with the Director of Development, set goals, develop strategy for and when appropriate, solicit alumni for support of The Webb Fund, Alumni Scholars Fund or other school giving priorities.
  • In collaboration with the marketing department, envision, write, and help produce communication pieces such as the Alumni Bulletin, invitations to events, and alumni solicitations.
  • Work directly with school leadership and alumni community to oversee internship and mentoring programs for current students.
  • In partnership with the Director of Development, identify and research alumni major gift prospects. Leverage alumni relations activities to increase annual giving.
  • Participate as a visible and active presence on campus at school-wide events, parent and faculty functions.
  • Provide regular, detailed reports and information to the Director of Development.
  • Perform other duties at the discretion of the Director of Development.
  • Lead and enhance programs to instill a tradition and expectation of philanthropy among current students and recent graduates.
Professional Qualifications
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent tasks; to anticipate needs and act accordingly, and to perform with a high degree of initiative.
  • Demonstrated success identifying, developing and leading volunteers.
  • Experienced in managing events.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to exercise good judgement and handle confidential matters with discretion.
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ experience in development, alumni relations, non-profit, or similar transferable experience is preferred.
  • Be capable of working occasional nights and weekends.
  • Willing to travel for out-of-town alumni events and school-related conferences.
  • Blackbaud/Raiser's Edge knowledge is a plus.
