Two days after grabbing both the girls’ (a state-record 10th straight) and boys’ (third in a row) state team championships, members of Webb’s Lady Spartan and Spartan tennis teams returned to the winners’ podium for the 2019 TSSAA Division II-A state singles and doubles championships.
Junior Audrey Yoon won the DII-A girls’ state singles title. She defeated Silverdale Baptist Academy’s Addison Horton, 6-2, 6-1, in the championship match at Old Fort Park’s Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro. Her singles victory came almost a year to the day after her sister Lauren – a student and tennis player at Emory University – successfully defended her state singles title as a Webb senior.
In a fourth straight all-Lady Spartan girls’ state doubles championship final, Caroline Ross ’19 and Carina Dagotto ’20 claimed this year’s state title (6-0, 6-0), with sophomore Lili Roth and freshman Delaney Bone taking runner-up.
Spartan duo Ben Aikens ’19 and Harrison Williams ’20 claimed the boys’ DII-A state doubles tennis title. They defeated Christian Academy of Knoxville, 6-2, 6-0, to bring home the championship trophy. The match was particularly sweet for Harrison, who was state runner-up in singles last year.
