Webb School of Knoxville Class of 2019 alumna Casey Collier will be among the six area high school athletes to be honored by The Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame (GKSHF) during its induction ceremony and banquet, July 25, at the Knoxville Convention Center. The Lady Spartan basketball point guard has been named a GKSHF Female Athlete of the Year, along with Oak Ridge basketball player Jada Guinn and Anderson County track athlete Brittany Bishop.
Casey Collier is the latest member of the Webb community to be recognized at this year’s GKSHF ceremony. Earlier this year, it was announced that Webb head football coach and athletic director, David Meske, Webb alumnus and Olympic Gold Medalist, Davis Tarwater ’02, and George W. Sampson, founder/president of Cherokee Distributing Company and parent of four Spartan alumni, as well as a current Webb student, will be inducted into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. Casey Collier, a Lispscomb University signee and a Knox News Sports Awards Basketball Player of the Year nominee, is a two-time Miss Basketball Finalist and winner of this year’s TSSAA Division II-A Miss Basketball Award following an outstanding senior season highlighted by an average of 16.3 points per game with 5 assists, 5 steals and 6 rebounds per game. She made 42 percent of her shots from the field while connecting on 33 percent of her three-point attempts. Collier was also a 72 percent shooter at the free throw line and led her Lady Spartans in charges taken. Selected MVP at this year’s Division II-A District Tournament, she led the Lady Spartans to their second straight district championship title and a runner-up finish in the DII-A East Region Tournament, picking up East All-Region Tournament Team honors.
Collier’s high school hoops career at Webb includes 1,485 total career points, 632 assists, 515 steals, and 561 rebounds. She is a three-time All-State player (2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018), a three-time district tournament MVP and two-time region tournament MVP. A multiple All-Region, All-District selection, Collier played a key role in Webb winning its sixth state championship title in 2018 and placing runner-up in 2016. As an eighth grader, she came off the bench to help her Lady Spartans clinch the state title, earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.
