Webb Swimming All-American Jack Hamilton Signs with UPenn

Webb School of Knoxville All-State swimming powerhouse Jack Hamilton signed with University of Pennsylvania, December 13, in Webb’s Lee Athletic Center.

A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Hamilton is a versatile talent, competing in the 100/200 breaststroke, 100/200 backstroke and 200/400 individual medley (IM). A two-year captain for Webb’s Spartan swim team, Hamilton finished third in the 200-yard IM (1:52.68) and fourth in the 100-yard back (50.58) at the 2018 TISCA Tennessee State High School Swimming & Diving Championships. He also led off (23.63) for Webb’s ninth-place 200-yard medley relay team and contributed a leg (21.58) to the Spartans’ ninth-place 200 free relay.

In addition, at the 2018 Knox-Area Interscholastic Swim League (KISL) City Meet Championships, Hamilton raced to victories in both the men’s 200-yard IM (1:53.40) and the 100-yard back (50.96). He was also the starting leg for the Spartans’ 200 medley relay team that took fourth and was part of the men’s 200 free relay team that finished sixth.

Hamilton has competed at Junior Nationals and USA Futures in each of the last two years. This past summer, he achieved lifetime bests in the 50/100 back, 200 breast, and 200/400 IM at the Southeastern LSC Long Course Championships. He was an A-finalist in the 50/100/200 back, 200 breast and 200/400 IM.

“In the storied history of Webb’s swimming and diving program, Jack will be recognized as one of the greats,” says Webb co-head swim coach Davis Tarwater ’02. “He’s well suited to handle the academic and athletic rigors of one of our nation’s finest institutions, the University of Pennsylvania.” Tarwater noted that Hamilton has been recognized as a leader among his peers in the classroom and on the pool deck. “I could not be more elated for this young man’s hard work and dedication to pay off with an opportunity of this caliber,” Tarwater continued, “and I look forward to watching him lead our Spartan program throughout the remainder of his senior campaign.”
