Webb Students Receive High Marks at Region Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Webb Middle and Upper School students have consistently earned high marks at the annual Southeast Region-At-Large Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. This year marked another successful showing by Webb student-artists with several receiving high honors, including one of the highest awards – Gold Key. Gold Key winners are automatically considered for national-level recognition. Congratulations to all of our regional award winners!

Birth of Television Takes the Spotlight in Upper School’s THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION

Webb’s Upper School drama department will present Aaron Sorkin’s THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION, March 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Webb’s Bishop Center auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public. Based on the true account of the birth of television and the fight to control the patents for it, THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION follows the lives of Philo Farnsworth, a young inventor on a Utah farm, and David Sarnoff, president of RCA, as they battle for patent rights to one of the most important inventions of the 20th century. This play is best suited for older audience members. Discretion advised.

ArtXtravaganza Art Show & Sale, March 6-8, Features Original Works by Nearly 70 Artists

Webb’s ArtXtravaganza art show & sale returns to the Lee Athletic Center, March 6 through 8. Boasting nearly 70 juried artists from across the Southeast and beyond, the event is free and open to the public, Guests can purchase fine art paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and photography – at a variety of price points. The event offers a wide range of artistic mediums, such as oil/acrylic, ceramic, wood, glass, and fiber. Painter Shane Miller of Nashville, TN is this year's featured artist. Doors will be open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 6. The art sale continues Saturday, March 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Spartans Grab Third Straight Region Basketball Title, Lady Spartans Finish Region Runner-Up

Webb’s varsity basketball teams continued their march toward the Division II-A state tournament with a third straight region title for the boys and region runner-up for the girls. Webb will host substate games against Tipton-Rosemark, February 28, and The Webb School, Bell Buckle, February 29, in the Lee Athletic Center. Webb’s Middle School A basketball teams concluded stellar seasons with KISL and James C. Haile AAAA State Tournament titles.

Webb Football Standout Grissim Anderson Commits to Play Football at Duke

Senior Spartan running back/linebacker Grissim Anderson has committed to play football at Duke University as a preferred walk-on. A three-year member of Webb’s varsity football program and a two-year starter for the Spartans, Anderson made 39 tackles his senior season, including 2 tackles for a loss, and earned 1st Team All-Region player honors. On offense, he rushed for 638 yards on 109 carries, averaging 5.8 yards per carry in nine varsity games this season. He also tallied 8 total touchdowns.

Webb Multiple State Title Sprinter Jasmine Jefferson Signs with Wofford

Webb senior multiple state title sprinter Jasmine Jefferson signed with Wofford College, February 3. Winner of numerous gold and silver medals at the KIL and Division II-A state track & field championships since eighth grade – when she set the school record in the 400 – Jefferson helped lead the Lady Spartan charge toward their first-ever state track & field team title in 2019. As a sophomore, she was also a key player in the Lady Spartans’ campaign toward winning their sixth Division II-A state basketball title.
