Webb’s varsity basketball teams continued their march toward the Division II-A state tournament with a third straight region title for the boys and region runner-up for the girls. Webb will host substate games against Tipton-Rosemark, February 28, and The Webb School, Bell Buckle, February 29, in the Lee Athletic Center. Webb’s Middle School A basketball teams concluded stellar seasons with KISL and James C. Haile AAAA State Tournament titles.
Senior Spartan running back/linebacker Grissim Anderson has committed to play football at Duke University as a preferred walk-on. A three-year member of Webb’s varsity football program and a two-year starter for the Spartans, Anderson made 39 tackles his senior season, including 2 tackles for a loss, and earned 1st Team All-Region player honors. On offense, he rushed for 638 yards on 109 carries, averaging 5.8 yards per carry in nine varsity games this season. He also tallied 8 total touchdowns.
Webb senior multiple state title sprinter Jasmine Jefferson signed with Wofford College, February 3. Winner of numerous gold and silver medals at the KIL and Division II-A state track & field championships since eighth grade – when she set the school record in the 400 – Jefferson helped lead the Lady Spartan charge toward their first-ever state track & field team title in 2019. As a sophomore, she was also a key player in the Lady Spartans’ campaign toward winning their sixth Division II-A state basketball title.
Senior Lady Spartan state tennis champion Audrey Yoon has committed to continue her tennis career at Claremont McKenna College. Yoon posted a 30-0 record in No. 1 singles last season and led the Lady Spartan charge toward a 10th straight Division II-A state team title and record 16th overall. She later returned to the winners’ podium to accept the DII-A girls’ state singles crown and was named Knox News Sports Awards’ Girls Tennis Player of the Year for 2019.
Webb senior pole vaulter Stephani Franks has committed to continue her track & field career at Franklin & Marshall College. A two-time (2018, 2019) DII-A state pole vault silver medalist, Franks helped lead her Lady Spartans to their first-ever state track & field team title in 2019. She is tied for the school record in pole vault – 10’ – and is also an accomplished sprinter and cross-country runner.
Several Spartan student-athletes earned All-State and All-5Star Preps honors for their performances during the fall 2019 season. Webb School proudly congratulates all of our Spartan athletes for their efforts this year.
Spartan swimmer Michael McClamroch signed with University of Notre Dame, November 25. A two-time All-State performer, McClamroch took eighth in both the boys’ 50-yard and 100-yard free at the 2019 TISCA Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championship. An AP Scholar with Honor and member of Webb’s National Honor Society, McClamroch is a USA Swimming Futures Qualifier in the 50-yard free.
Senior outside hitter Leoni Kunz signed with Stony Brook University, November 21. The four-year letter winner was a key player in the Lady Spartans’ volleyball dynasty that included six straight Division II-A state titles. She helped lead Webb to a 35-7 record in 2018 and a state championship six-peat, and was selected to the DII-A TSWA All-State Team. She is also a 2019 All-Region Team and All-District Second Team selection.
