In Upper School, students take ownership of their creative identities, fully stepping into their roles as artists, creators, and performers. With an expansive menu of electives, including Honors and AP options, they’re challenged to push limits, develop technical mastery, and pursue their craft with purpose. From composing original scores and curating portfolios to performing under the lights or experimenting in new media, students produce meaningful work that reflects skill, originality, and vision. Mentored by accomplished artists and performers, they also acquire firsthand experience through exhibitions, competitions, and productions – often discovering that the spark ignited in earlier years has transformed into an enduring dedication and deep connection to the arts.

Strings ensemble

Strings ensemble brings together violin, viola, cello, and bass players in a collaborative, supportive setting that champions technical growth, cohesive ensemble dynamics, and expressive musical interpretation. Students engage with a diverse repertoire that spans from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. Regular public performances give students the chance to demonstrate their progress, convey their musicality, and contribute to a shared artistic experience.

Theater arts

The Upper School theater arts program immerses students in every facet of performance and production – from acting and directing to stagecraft and film. A carefully designed curriculum featuring both classic and contemporary works bolsters students’ expressive voice, confidence, and storytelling abilities within a collaborative, ensemble-focused space. The program also offers a dedicated cinema studies track, where students explore narrative imagery, scriptwriting, and film production. Vocal arts

From the first note to polished performances, the Upper School vocal arts program provides a structured progression for singers to develop, excel, and shine. Students begin in Spartan Singers, where they grow foundational skills and a greater understanding of ensemble dynamics. They then advance to Spartan Select, deepening their technique and expanding their musical repertoire. They may also audition for Chamber Singers, designed for qualified students who want to take their vocal artistry to a more advanced level.

Wind ensemble

For woodwind, brass, and percussion players ready to advance their craft, wind ensemble provides focused training and skill development in a dynamic, full-band setting. Students work with a broad and challenging repertoire – from classical to contemporary pieces – and perform throughout the year at concerts and school events. For students who enjoy working with their hands, this area of study offers a broad exploration of clay and mixed media techniques. From hand-building and wheel-throwing to constructing forms with wood, wire, cardboard, and found objects, students learn to create three-dimensional works. They produce functional pieces such as mugs and bowls, as well as abstract forms – all while considering space, texture, and structure. In the Upper School’s media production courses, students enter the dynamic arena of digital storytelling and broadcast journalism. In Media Production I, they develop a strong foundation, learning to script, film, edit, and present on camera while providing content for the school’s W.O.W. Network. Moving on to Media Production II, they tackle advanced projects, step into leadership roles like directing and content strategy, and master more sophisticated editing techniques.
