In Webb’s Lower School, students are empowered to think boldly, explore deeply, and build a strong academic foundation – all within a joyful, nurturing environment. Morning Magic

“This is the beginning of a new day. I have been given this day to use as I will. I can waste it or I can use it for good. What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.”

These opening words from our Lower School Creed set the tone each morning as students, teachers, and staff come together to begin the day with shared smiles and purpose. After reciting the Creed and celebrating birthdays (with plenty of clapping!), we jump into our character value of the month – things like generosity, patience, and collaboration. We also talk about the Big Three: treating others right, making smart choices, and being your best self. It’s a fun, feel-good way to connect, build community, and set the stage for an awesome day ahead!

Time to Learn

Our classrooms buzz with excitement, wonder, and active exploration! Whether students are tackling challenging math puzzles, getting lost in a great book, or sharing their own adventures, they’re fully engaged and inspired to dream big. With small classes and caring teachers, every child receives the care and guidance they need to stretch, grow with confidence, and celebrate their achievements. Each subject sparks curiosity, fuels creativity, and lays a solid foundation for future-ready learning.

Lunch & Laughter

Growing kids need fuel – for their bodies, their brains, and their busy days! Thanks to our trusted partnership with Sodexo, students enjoy nutritious, freshly-made meals in a warm and inviting dining space. With a tasty mix of healthy options, including kid-approved favorites, lunch is both flavorful and fun! Our talented on-site chef and dedicated food service manager bring creativity to every dish, and are always happy to work with families to accommodate special dietary needs. More than just a meal – lunch is a time to relax, recharge, and laugh with friends.

Let’s Move

Every day at Webb is a chance to move, play, and grow stronger – inside and out. Through daily P.E. in grades K–5, students build coordination and confidence and develop lifelong habits of health and wellness – all while having a blast with friends. Our Junior Spartans in PreK stay on the move with a blend of P.E. and specialized Movement classes designed just for them. Whether it’s conquering a new game, practicing teamwork, or just getting the wiggles out, movement brings joy and energy to every Lower School moment.

Think Like a Genius

All Lower School students engage in developmentally appropriate, experiential learning, but our fifth-graders take it to the next level with the Creative Genius Initiative. This special program empowers students to select a topic that ignites their imagination and immerse themselves in independent research. Whether examining how origami is applied in space or investigating breakthroughs in medicine, students pursue their interests, hone research skills, and cultivate critical and creative thinking. Their hard work culminates in a presentation for their peers and parents, where our young scholars can showcase their discoveries and shine.

Afternoon Adventures

Just because the school day ends doesn’t mean that the learning – or the fun – has to! Our after-school clubs program is a playground for curiosity, where students can try new things, tap into their creativity, and develop new skills. Whether it’s speaking Mandarin, exploring the wonders of STEM, crafting with sewing, making music with strings, joining Scouts, or simply relaxing with coloring, there’s something for every budding passion and imaginative spirit. For those who aren’t in a club or just need a little more time before heading home, our After Care program is also available. It offers a safe, supportive space where kids can unwind, play, and continue their adventures until pickup.

Grade 2

In addition to core academics, Lower School students take part in a broad range of special area classes that add depth and variety to their school day. Through music, art, technology, library, Spanish, and more, they experience different modes of learning and expression – unlocking new ways to think, communicate, and connect.

Art

It’s no wonder art class tops the list of favorites! Here, students roll up their sleeves and jump into a world of color, texture, and imagination as they paint, draw, and sculpt – bringing big ideas to life through joyful messes and creative choices. Along the way, they strengthen their voice, stretch their problem-solving muscles, and learn that there’s no one “right” way to craft something meaningful. Every project is a playful invitation to think in new ways, celebrate individual talents, and delight in the process.

Spanish

Lower School students launch into an engaging journey in Spanish, where interactive lessons in vocabulary, conversation, and cultural exploration help develop their competence in listening, speaking, and understanding a new language. From songs, games, and hands-on activities in the early grades to more structured practice in the upper elementary years, students steadily expand their grasp of the language, build communication skills, and boost their overall proficiency in Spanish. Along the way, they experience the rich traditions and vibrant communities of Spanish-speaking regions, broadening their worldviews and appreciation for global cultures.

Science

Starting in third grade, students are immersed in scientific adventures filled with experiments, investigations, and active learning. They delve into topics like weather, ecosystems, human anatomy, and force and motion, deepening their understanding of the world around them while sharpening essential skills such as observation, analysis, and inventive problem-solving.

For our youngest learners in PreK through second grade, the seeds of scientific thinking are planted through nature walks, seasonal studies, and classroom experiments, introducing children to the wonder of how things work and sparking a passion for science that grows stronger with every step.

SMART Lab

In the Lower School's state-of-the-art SMART Lab, students interact with and utilize technology in tackling purposeful, age-appropriate activities that fuel both confidence and capability. They learn the basics of keyboarding, navigate digital tools like iMovie, and explore the fundamentals of coding, robotics, and design. Hands-on projects expand students’ curiosity, drive collaboration, and challenge them to express their ideas effectively across digital platforms. Along the way, they gain important lessons in digital citizenship and responsible technology use – all while experiencing the thrill of turning imagination into innovation.

LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

Reading Buddies: Older students read aloud together with their younger peers each week, building literacy skills, confidence, and friendships.
FAMILIES Program: Students across grades meet regularly in faculty-led groups to foster connection, leadership, and school spirit through service and team-building activities.
Fifth Grade Mentors: Upper-grade students model leadership and support for our PreK Junior Spartans.
Student Council: Elected representatives coordinate service projects and oversee school events.
Leadership Speaker Series: Inspiring guests provide insights and engage students in discussions on leadership, values, and other key themes.
