Welcome to Webb School of Knoxville’s website and to the new 2010-2011 academic year. Thank you for your interest in the school and for taking the time to peruse our website. Webb School has been educating young leaders in the Knoxville community for more than half a century, and we are eager to continue our mission of preparing students to achieve success in college and success in life. Last year’s graduates had 100 percent college placement, were extended 423 acceptances at 146 different colleges, and received $7.0 million in scholarship offers.
For Webb School, preparing students to achieve success in college and success in life requires that we foster growth in a whole host of facets of human development. First among equals in that effort, though, are the strengthening of intellectual and character development.
Webb School gives great thought and invests significant resources into understanding what are the most relevant and important areas of study for a young person today and what are the best ways to teach that material. The world continues to change at an exponential rate, and keeping current with the knowledge and skill sets that will be essential for tomorrow’s leaders is critical. Likewise, the school supports widespread teacher training initiatives that allow Webb faculty to lead classrooms in the most effective ways possible. Experiential, collaborative learning and the increasing role of technology are both at the heart of how Webb students acquire new information and thinking strategies that can be retained and applied over time.
Respected leaders of tomorrow will need to possess the highest standards of character. Developing that requisite integrity comes, in part, through one’s wide variety of interactions with others within an environment that highly prizes speaking the truth and acting with honor all of the time. At Webb, both through the Honor Code and the K-12 emphasis on leadership development, we are helping to nourish a generation of ethical, principled young people.
All of us at Webb take great pride in the work that we are doing to create an optimal learning environment for our students. Within that environment we are deeply committed to accomplishing our educational goals and to providing our graduates with the skills and attitudes essential to becoming positive leaders in the world of tomorrow.
Again, I am glad that you have elected to visit our website. Hopefully this visit and brief introduction will be a first step to your coming to know our school better.
